Sunderland make move for Liam Rosenior - sources

Sunderland have registered an interest in making Liam Rosenior their new manager, sources have told Football Insider.

The Black Cats are on the lookout for a new boss after Michael Beale was sacked in February, with Mike Dodds taking on the role on an interim basis until the end of the campaign.

Football Insider revealed on 15 May that Birmingham City have also added Rosenior to their managerial shortlist as Tony Mowbray is considered unlikely to return to the dugout next season despite his health believed to be improving.

Sunderland are now ready to compete with the Blues to make the 39-year-old their new manager.

Rosenior is highly rated by a number of other EFL clubs following his work at Hull City as well as his impressive assistant manager posting alongside Wayne Rooney at Derby County.

There was widespread surprise when he was sacked by the Tigers after narrowly missing out on a place in the Championship play-offs.
