“We are having discussions” – Club negotiating to sign Leeds United player, trying their best to find deal – Sport Witness

Borussia Mönchengladbach have a desire to retain Leeds United’s Maximilian Wöber, after signing him on a loan deal last summer.

Bild say the Bundesliga side’s clash against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday will almost certainly be the defender’s last outing with the club.

Leeds haven’t agreed to include an option or obligation to buy as part of the loan deal and as of now, the 26-year-old will have to return to Elland Road after this season.

It’s explained that the Whites are requesting €17m, which is €3m more than the centre-back’s current market value.

The German club are willing to pay a maximum of €9m and the fee demanded by Leeds isn’t within their reach, which has been reiterated by Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus.

“We are having discussions with everyone involved, of course we would like to keep Max with us. But the demands are extremely high,” he said.

The Austria international had recently told Bild his future isn’t in his hands, and he’s waiting for clarity.

Leeds are ‘apparently gambling’ with the player as the report states they are hoping he impresses at the Euros, so that his price could rise further. If the Whites weren’t to receive any offers of over €15m, Wöber could be retained for next season.

Daniel Farke’s side are in contention to return to the Premier League, after making it to the Championship playoffs.
