Newcastle told to scrap Jarrad Branthwaite deal and sign 23-year-old - pundit

Newcastle United should pursue a move for Marc Guehi instead of swooping for Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

That is the view of former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who was speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast about Guehi’s future away from Crystal Palace – who he admitted were “unlikely” to keep the 23-year-old.

Newcastle have been widely linked with Branthwaite as clubs look to take advantage of Everton’s poor financial situation.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (14 May) that England international Guehi is the Palace star most “likely” to quit in the summer transfer window.

It is believed Liverpool, Man United, Newcastle and Arsenal are all keen on Guehi after his impressive displays for the Croydon club.

The centre-back is under contract at Selhurst Park until June 2026.

Robinson: Newcastle should sign Guehi over Branthwaite – ‘much better proposition’

He has recently returned from a knee injury and could be a part of the England squad for this summer’s European Championship.

Robinson told Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast: “We talk about Olise and Eze as top players, but the one for me is Marc Guehi.

“The figures which are touted around for Jarrad Branthwaite – Guehi is more experienced, he’s been in the England side, and he’s a better player at the moment.

“If you’re looking at Branthwaite’s price tag, Guehi is a much better proposition.

“He wouldn’t go in at Arsenal or Man City, but he’d go in at Liverpool, Tottenham, Man United and Newcastle United.

“Since Glasner has come in, he’s steadied the ship and got results – and you can now see a clear identity.

“He’ll want to keep these players, but it’s unlikely, in all honesty. The offer of playing at a top six or Champions League club is too good.”
