GFFN editor-in-chief  Luke Entwistle and GFFN’s  Raphaël Jucobin face off in our Ligue 1 predictions competition. It’s three points for a correct score, two points for a correct score difference, and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

Game of the week: OGC Nice v Paris Saint-Germain, Wednesday 20:00 (UK)

There is certainly one side that has more to play for than another. Nice come into the game with their fate in their own hands. Should they win their last two games of the season, they will finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League play-offs. The motivation to do so will be huge and recent performances give hope. Their 1-0 victory over Le Havre on Friday was reminiscent of the Nice of old. There wasn’t a lot of guile offensively, and there didn’t need to be, but they were extremely solid defensively, not conceding one clear chance to Les Ciel et Marine.

However, storm clouds are brewing over the Allianz Riviera and they threaten to ruin the end of Nice’s season. Just at the crucial time, both the manager, Francesco Farioli, and the sporting director, Florent Ghisolfi, are being linked with summer moves. Both now look likely to depart at the end of the season. Whilst Farioli insists that the team is currently in a “bubble” and therefore undistracted by reports, it will be difficult to prevent the news from affecting the players in this final week of the season.

It isn’t a completely serene environment at PSG either. Kylian Mbappé finally officially announced his departure last week, ahead of his final game at the Parc des Princes as a PSG player. Amidst reports of a falling out with president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, whom Mbappé did not thank in his goodbye video, PSG succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against Toulouse on Sunday, ahead of the trophy-lifting ceremony. It was a strange atmosphere with Mbappé booed but then honoured by the PSG fans. On the pitch, he got Les Parisiens’ only goal but it wasn’t enough for PSG to get a result with Luis Enrique bemoaning his side’s “worst game of the season”. It perhaps shouldn’t come as a surprise – motivation to secure results in Ligue 1 will be in short supply. All thoughts are likely on the Coupe de France final against Lyon later this month.

  • Reims 1-3 Marseille
