Chelsea star hopeful of heading to Paris Olympics – Blues may not be quite so keen – Sport Witness

Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez has insisted he would love to go to the Olympics in Paris this summer, but that decision is out of his hands.

The midfielder has been speaking to D Sports about his current situation, with him battling back from a hernia operation in hope of featuring for his country this summer.

The Argentine has been battling with the issue for some time and elected to undergo surgery early, thus ruling him out of the end of the season, in the hope of being fit for the summer.

That’s because he would be a part of Lionel Scaloni’s side taking part in the Copa America, while he’s also eligible to be a part of Javier Mascherano’s squad at the Olympics.

While he is 23 years old, because he was born on January 17th, 2001, it means he is still eligible for the tournament and wouldn’t take up one of the three places reserved for players over 23.

Thus, he is an attractive option for Mascherano given he is a Premier League player with Chelsea but also a firm fixture in the senior national side, and one of the key players in their World Cup success too, with Champions League experience as well.

And he’d love to be a part of the tournament, but insists the decision is ultimately out of his own hands.

“I have the possibility of going and I would love to go to the Olympic Games,” he said.

“It is Chelsea’s decision, and I haven’t talked about it yet. I will respect the decision of Javier Mascherano, who is the coach, and after that we will talk about it.”
