Fulham star’s dream is to play for Manchester United – One club already regret not signing him when they could – Sport Witness

Fulham star Rodrigo Muniz dreams of playing for Manchester United as he continues his rapid rise in the Premier League this season.

That’s according to Marca, who cover the player today and how Atletico Madrid are already cursing their luck that they never signed him ahead of Fulham.

Muniz is the undoubted star of the show for Fulham at this moment in time, with eight goals in nine games making him the in-form striker in the Premier League.

He’s earning plenty of attention and plenty of praise, having seemingly come from nowhere to replace Raul Jimenez and prove his worth under Marco Silva.

That’s led to some regret at Atletico Madrid, with a growing feeling that the striker ‘escaped’ them when he was very much in their grasp.

Marca explain that the Spanish side had been keen following Muniz’s superb performances for Flamengo in Brazil when he was just 18 years old.Muniz has even confirmed he spoke to Atletico favourite Filipe Luís about a move, with him urging him to go to Europe rather than join Al-Nasr. Atletico hesitated, though, and Fulham eventually got him for €8m in 2021.

His start to life at Craven Cottage was complicated by the COVID-19 outbreak, which forced him to quarantine in Barcelona as Brazil was on the UK’s red list at the time, but he eventually played a part in their promotion campaign before being loaned out to Middlesbrough last season.

That was unsuccessful but he’s hit the ground running this year and taken advantage of Aleksandar Mitrovic’s departure in the summer.

With eight goals in nine games, he’s the in-form striker in the Premier League and Atletico are watching on, presumably full of regret.

The big question is what comes next for him. More goals and more big performances could have the big clubs sniffing around, and Marca say Muniz has one he’d like in particular.

That’s Manchester United, who have been ‘his dream since he was little’ according to the newspaper.

They need a back up option to Rasmus Hojlund, as has been obvious throughout this season, and perhaps another youngster like Muniz would be the perfect fit.

That’s just us spit balling to be fair, but Muniz has the dream and Manchester United aren’t averse to signing a striker from Craven Cottage, as those who remember Louis Saha’s move in 2004 will attest.
