Everton face devastating third points deduction - Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed that the club face a third PSR breach – and potential points deduction – after announcing losses of £89million in their latest accounts.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – admitted that he was shocked by the losses suffered at Goodison Park.

Everton published their 2022-23 accounts on Sunday (31 March) which revealed an overall turnover of £172.2million.

The Merseyside club also announced a statutory loss of £89.1million – adding to losses of £45million in 2021/22 and £121million in 2020/21.

Huge Everton losses mean third PSR breach is likely – Wyness

Everton were given a six-point deduction for their first breach of PSR rules and are in the process of a second hearing which could result in further punishment this season.

Wyness wold Football Insider’s Inside Track: “It certainly managed to ruin my Easter weekend when the accounts dropped.”

It was a much bigger number than I had anticipated.

But nevertheless, the £89million of losses is not what will be considered for any particular breach.

It’ll have to be looked at in terms of what allowances there will be and I’m sure that with the stadium still in construction there will be significant numbers to come off of the overall figure.

However, it may well still be another breach.
