Concern Newcastle United player’s injury could have knock-on effect and ruin his summer plans – Sport Witness

Paraguay are concerned that Miguel Almiron’s latest injury for Newcastle United could end up affecting his chances of playing at the Copa America this summer.

That’s according to Versus, who cover the player today and the ‘worries’ he’s created for his country with his latest spell on the sidelines.

The newspaper explains that Almiron’s recent knee injury, which Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has confirmed will see him spend at least a month on the sidelines, is creating concerns in the national team set up too.

They had been hoping to rely on Almiron at the Copa America this summer but his month long lay-off, which will see him miss games against Fulham, Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Sheffield United, has left them sweating.

That’s because as things stand Almiron would be set to return for the final weeks of the Premier League season but with little time between that at the start of the Copa America.

Paraguay begin their tournament against Colombia on June 24th but have friendlies against Chile on June 11th and Panama on June 11th.

Newcastle’s final game is against Tottenham on the 22nd May and it seems the concern is that Almiron could find time up against him, particularly if his recovery doesn’t go as planned.

Given the distance between the dates it may just be some unnecessary panicking from Paraguay, but the concern is there nonetheless.
