Arsenal will not ‘go higher than €50m’ for major target – Suggestion of ‘financial struggle’ at Emirates – Sport Witness

Last week, Sport stated Everton had requested €60m for Amadou Onana when Arsenal made an enquiry for him.

The north London club were mentioned in a report that mainly focused on Barcelona’s interest in the 22-year-old.

Voetbalkrant relay it and then seem to provide their own information on Arsenal, who have been chasing the midfielder for a while.

Everton are 18th in the table and Onana, who wants to leave in the summer, is focusing on helping them finish this season outside the relegation zone.

The Belgium international’s sale can help the Toffees improve their finances and the report explains that they have set a starting price of €60m.

The website suggests Arsenal may not be able to meet the Merseyside club’s request due to the ‘financial struggle’ at the Emirates, likely meaning they are being careful about future expenditure after shelling out upwards of €200m last summer on Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber.

It’s claimed Mikel Arteta’s side don’t intend to ‘go higher than €50m’ for their major target in the summer, but it seems this wouldn’t be enough to sign a player who’s also being courted by other clubs.

Barcelona are interested but even they also aren’t willing to meet the fee demanded by Sean Dyche’s side, feeling they can only afford €40m or so.

Onana has two goals and registered an assist from 25 games for Everton this season.
