Martin Odegaard couldn’t resist teasing Bukayo Saka about the chances he missed during Arsenal’s thumping 6-0 win over West Ham on Sunday.
One week after breathing new life into their Premier League title bid with victory over Liverpool, Arsenal dismantled their London neighbours in their own backyard with Saka bagging a brace. William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Leandro Trossard and former West Ham captain Declan Rice were also on target.
Saka was the Hammers’ tormentor-in-chief and arguably should have left the London Stadium with more than two goals to his name after spurning numerous opportunities – and Odegaard saw an opportunity to cheekily point that out during a post-match interview on Sky Sports.
After being asked to present Saka with the Player of the Match award, Odegaard quipped: “Was waiting for the hat-trick, but…”, much to the amusement of his team-mate.
Odegaard went on to praise the performance as a whole, which came in the wake of victories for Liverpool and Manchester City on Saturday.
The Gunners skipper said: “Brilliant performance. From start to end we dominated and controlled everything. Today, we were really sharp in front of goal. I’m proud of the team. Coming from a big game [against Liverpool] and a big win and backing it up today with a great performance.
“We are focusing on ourselves. We don’t care too much about the other teams. We keep working hard. It’s a good win but we move on.”

Not only did the emphatic victory keep Arsenal’s title bid on track, it also created history as the club’s biggest-ever away win in the Premier League era – a feat that was not lost on Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners manager lauded the achievement post-match, telling Sky Sports: “I’m extremely happy. The way we performed, the way we played. Such a big score in a really difficult place tells you a lot about how well the boys played today.
“It’s great to make [club] history especially the way we have done it. We’re in a good moment and we you have good moments you have to build and maintain the momentum. The team from the beginning looked really sharp. We had to put right the last two results against them and that was a good motivation for the boys.”
